I have to be honest, I’d never really been to Tacoma before Dee and Damon’s wedding. Driven through it, yes. Been to see several concerts at the Tacoma Dome including MC Hammer and Snoop Doggy Dogg & Dr. Dre, sure. Actually visited the city, no.
As I winded my way through town and along the water to Jack Hyde Park, I was completely taken aback. I love texture and color and both were everywhere – gritty steel, bright red brick, water a color of blue I’ve never seen before, the list could go on.
I’m sure they get this all the time, but I felt like I was photographing a couple of rock stars. Damon showed up with a bad-ass pair of sunglasses that read “Groom” across them and Dee showed up (separately) with the biggest, brightest (slightly nervous:) smile I have ever seen.
As Damon watched Dee walk over the small white bridge, down the aisle to meet him, his face relaxed into the most calm, loving grin. At that moment, although there was just a small, close-knit group witnessing this happen, it felt as though the whole world loved them.
Admittedly, I was a bit star struck.
